For the production of invert segments for the Sarner Aa flood relief tunnel, MARTI Tunnel AG relied on a tailor-made automation concept – developed in close cooperation with Herrenknecht Formwork. At the heart of the system: a surface gantry and a suspended robot that automates key steps in the production line.

The project objective was clear: maximum reduction of manual labor while maintaining consistently high production quality. With this innovative system, all essential steps – from opening the mould to final surface finishing – could be automated and centrally controlled.

Flexible automation with high potential

The system produced 3,870 invert segments with minimal staffing – and is ready for future tasks: the surface gantry and carousel system were designed to accommodate other types of precast concrete elements as well.

The Sarner Aa project proves how automation, when smartly implemented, raises both productivity and flexibility in segment production.
