The 8.8 kilometer long twin-tube Bossler Tunnel is being built under the Swabian Alb on the new Stuttgart-Ulm line. It is the railway tunnel with the largest diameter ever excavated with mechanized tunnelling in Germany and the longest tunnel structure on the new line.

The new line provides faster connections for the regional and national transport of passengers and goods by rail. Both tubes of the Bossler tunnel are being excavated by an EPB Shield from Herrenknecht. The TBM is installing around 60,000 segments with an outside diameter of 10,940 millimeters and a width of 2,000 millimeters.

  • High-pressure cleaning system for concrete hoppers
  • Handling equipment: EXTRADOS vacuum suction plate with 90° rotation, INTRADOS mechanical clamp, clamp with 90° turning unit

Elaborate comprehensive solution

The location of the segment factory close to the tunnel entrance decisively contributes to efficient tunnelling of the Boßler tunnel as long-distance transport solutions are not necessary. The scope of supply includes precision moulds as well as adjusted handling and production equipment.

 

Herrenknecht Formwork plans and supplies segment production plants for any project requirement- customized and adapted to special needs. Focus is on the planned production capacity, considering economical aspects at the same time.
